WorldRemit and CONTACT expand access to instant money transfers across the CIS region
Digital money transfer service continues rapid expansion, adding over 3,300 cash pickup locations in Tajikistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia
London, 14 November 2017: Leading digital money transfer company WorldRemit has joined forces with CONTACT, the international payment system, to offer instant money transfers to Tajikistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia.
The partnership will allow the CIS diaspora living and working in over 50 countries to send remittances as easily as sending an instant message to over 3,300 new CONTACT cash pickup locations across the region.
In February, WorldRemit launched money transfers with CONTACT to Russia, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Following the success of this partnership, WorldRemit and CONTACT are now scaling their operations in the region.

WorldRemit’s mobile-first, cashless model allows hard working migrants to send money in a few taps directly from their phones - without the need to visit and stand in line at a bricks and mortar agent.
Remittances play an important role across the CIS region. The World Bank estimates that in 2015 over $8 billion dollars of remittances was received in Tajikistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia.
Ismail Ahmed, founder and CEO at WorldRemit, comments: “CONTACT has become one of our most trusted partners - and this extension of our partnership will now allow recipients in Tajikistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia to receive money at a large number of new cash pick up locations.”
Elena Gafarova, vice-president for international development at CONTACT system, says: “A similar service, which we launched earlier in several countries, proved to be a huge success. We are pleased that thanks to our joint efforts with WorldRemit an increasing number of CIS countries are adapting to the up-to-date technologies of money transfers”.
In June, WorldRemit announced a global integration with Google’s Android Pay, followed by a partnership with Huawei’s mobile money platform across Africa. WorldRemit customers now complete 750,000 transfers every month from over 50 send countries to over 140 receiving destinations.
