WorldRemit waives money transfer fees to Turkey in support of earthquake relief

08.02.2023 | 2 minutes read

WorldRemit, a leading digital remittance platform, is waiving their fees on money transfers to Turkey for two weeks in the wake of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck on 6 February, 2023. Customers wishing to send money to support their family and friends in Turkey can do so fee free via the WorldRemit app, applicable until 22 February 2023. In addition, WorldRemit will donate US$5 to the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal for every transaction over US$100.

In the early hours of Monday morning, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria. A second 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the region a few hours later. With the death toll topping seven thousand and counting, many still trapped in debris or reported missing, the devastation is catastrophic.

Mark Lenhard, Zepz Group CEO said: “Remittances are an essential resource for millions of people, particularly during times of crisis. We therefore are waiving fees to provide further ease to people wanting to send funds to Turkey. We are here to help cross-border communities support their loved ones in transferring urgent funds in a secure and fast manner, so that those impacted can focus on rebuilding their future".
