WorldRemit and Wafacash launch instant money transfers to Senegal

Instant cash pickup service now available at over 250 Wafacash cash pickup locations across the country

Dakar and London, 28th February 2018 - Leading digital money transfer service WorldRemit has expanded its partnership with Wafacash to Senegal.

The Senegalese diaspora in over 50 countries can now send instant money transfers to 250 of new locations across Senegal, from Dakar to Kedougou, using the WorldRemit app or website.

A full list of cash pick up locations in Senegal can be found here.

With a diaspora of half a million Senegalese living in destinations such as France, Italy and Spain, remittances are playing an increasingly important role in the country’s economy. The World Bank estimates that in 2015 alone Senegal received over $1.6 billion in remittances.

WorldRemit’s mobile-first, digital model allows migrants to send money in a few taps directly from their phones - without the inconvenience of visiting a bricks and mortar agent.

Catherine Wines, co-founder at WorldRemit comments: “I’m delighted that our partnership with Wafacash is expanding quickly across the region to include Senegal, one of our priority markets in francophone Africa. Our partnership with Wafacash, one of the most reputable and innovative financial institutions in northern Africa, ensures that our recipients in Senegal have more choice and more cash pick up locations across the country.”

Hicham Aitbied, CEO at Wafacash West Africa adds: ''Through this partnership with WorldRemit, we intend to make a contribution to financial inclusion in Senegal. We will make life easier for the many WorldRemit users who will be able to receive their funds across the country."
