Uganda

Uganda is currently WorldRemit’s second leading receive market in East Africa. More than half of the 45 million people who live there have access to mobile money and 7.4 million have bank accounts.

There’s also a huge opportunity for us to make our mark by offering a send service to the many Ugandans who send money to family abroad and the many Indians transferring money back home. The main corridors are Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, India, France, China and Pakistan. This all adds up to a large market for outbound remittances.

So, we’re sure to become a major player by offering a far wider global reach and lower costs than our competitors. Our customers can send to 150 countries from their phone or laptop,  and friends and family overseas can receive their payout via bank transfer, mobile money, airtime top up or cash pickup - depending where they live.

Tanzania

At present, Tanzania is WorldRemit’s third largest receive market in East Africa after Kenya and Uganda. And as we’ll be offering the first outbound money transfer digital operator in the country, it’s all set to become a major send market for us as well.

Over 45% of the 57 million people who live there have mobile money accounts and over 17.5% of them have bank accounts. Plus, the population of non-Tanzanians in the country is currently over 700K. Therefore, there’s a huge market for our digital money transfer send service.

Whether it’s expats or other East Africans sending money home - senders can enjoy a choice of countries to send to (over 150) and a number of ways to send.

Another recent addition - Rwanda

We launched our outbound money transfer service in Rwanda in September 2019 with a far more comprehensive offering than the competition.

Not only are our transfer fees more attractive, but customers can send to more countries than MTN Homeland. We can also offer more payout options than Western Union and MTN Homeland - making it more convenient for recipients.

In Rwanda, the majority of money transfer senders are the Ugandan and Tanzanian diaspora sending money back home. In fact, over 90% of money transfers are sent to Uganda and Tanzania by resettled Rwandans and economic migrants.

Global reach

Wherever you need to send money from, you’ll find that WorldRemit has extensive coverage. You can send from over 50 countries to friends and family in 130 countries worldwide. Find out more about sending money with WorldRemit here.
