How to call a landline in Nepal

Making a direct call to a landline in Nepal from Australia is simple. Just use this international dialling format:

  • 0011 - The exit code used for making any international call from Australia

  • 977 - The ISD code or country code of Nepal

  • Area code - there are 59 area codes in Nepal.  If there is an area code make sure you enter it in after the ISD Code. If there’s no area code, simply enter your recipient's telephone number after ISD Code.

  • Finish by enter your recipient’s landline number

So, if for example you were calling friends or family in Kathmandu from Australia, with its area code of 1, you’d dial:

0011 - 977 -1- + landline number

How to call a mobile in Nepal

Making a direct call to a mobile number in Nepal from Australia is simple. Just use this international dialling format:

  • 0011 - The exit code used for making any international call from Australia

  • 977 - The ISD Code or Country Code of Nepal

  • 98 - followed by the rest of the mobile number.

How to call Nepal from Australia for free

Thankfully, there are a number of ways to call Nepal that will cost you nothing. Some operators offer all-inclusive call plans, which means you can call home at no extra cost. There are also several popular messaging apps that let you call internationally for free, including WhatsApp, Snapchat, Messenger, and Viber.

The cost of calling Nepal from Australia

There are many operators who provide coverage for making calls from Australia to Nepal. And often, network providers offer international add-ons to give you the flexibility you need.

  • Vodafone Infinite Plans, as well as selected Plus, Red, SIM Only and Business Advance Plans offer 300 standard international minutes from Australia to Nepal. This offer may change from time to time, so it’s important to check. Their $40, $50 and $60 Prepaid Plus and Combo Plus recharges also come with standard international minutes from Australia.

  • Telstra offers this international call rate from your home phone to Nepal - $1.60 per minute and a 55c call connection charge.

  • Lebera offers a number of call plans with international call minutes included. These range from the XS Plan at $14.90, which includes 15 international call minutes to Nepal to the Extra Extra Large Plan at $69.90, which includes 500 international call minutes to Nepal.  

  • Optus offers a number of pre-paid plans offering an international call rate of either 25c or 30c from a landline or mobile.  For pay as you go, Optus charges $2.20 per minute to fixed lines, $1.95 per minute to mobiles.
