WorldRemit waives transaction fees on transfers to DaviPlata and Bancolombia a la Mano mobile wallets for July

DENVER, USA/BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA-- July 8, 2021-- WorldRemit, a leading digital cross-border payments company, announced today it is waiving transaction fees for mobile wallet money transfers sent to Colombia through Bancolombia a la Mano and DaviPlata for Colombian Independence Day. Customers from more than 50 countries who send money to the country will be able to do so fee free from July 5th to August 8th, 2021.

With nearly 5 million Colombians living abroad,  many Colombians are opting for convenient, reliable, and fast digital solutions to send money back home, with a notable increase in demand since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To take advantage of this limited-time offer, beneficiaries will need a Bancolombia a la Mano or DaviPlata mobile wallet account, which can be opened for free. The promotion will be automatically applied at checkout. Terms and conditions apply.

Consumers have shifted their purchasing habits in Colombia and around the world to prioritize digital options -- “Nearly 90% of in-person transactions globally take place at a contactless-enabled merchant, and nearly all merchant categories saw an increase in contactless transactions as a share of total in-person transactions year-over-year in the first quarter of 2021”. This strong demand is reflected in recent data from the Superintendency of Economy of Colombia which indicates that the Specialized Societies in Deposits and Electronic Payments (SEDPEs), which includes mobile wallets, mobilizednearly 90,000 million dollars in 2020.

Jorge Godínez, Head of Latin America at WorldRemit, said: “Together with our partners Davivienda y Bancolombia, we continuously strive to develop the safest and most advanced technological tools so that our users can take advantage of receiving their money in their electronic wallets quickly, easily and safely. We understand the crucial role that Colombians abroad play in supporting their loved ones back home and want to lend a helping hand in facilitating the process of sending money in time for Colombian Independence Day celebrations.”

Leaders in the Colombian fintech space, both Bancolombia a la Mano and DaviPlata (by Davivienda) are at the forefront of digital efforts to drive financial inclusion. Both of them have more than 18 million users and Daviplata alone reports disbursing over 40 million dollars in remittances sent via its platform.
