WorldRemit and Vodafone launch instant international money transfers to M-Pesa in Romania

The WhatsApp of Money arrives in Romania

London, 10 December 2015: Digital money transfer service WorldRemit and Vodafone Romania today introduce international money transfers to Romania through Vodafone M-Pesa. WorldRemit customers can now send instant money transfers to any Vodafone customer in Romania – just like an instant message.

Vodafone users registered with M-Pesa can simply withdraw the received amount in more than 2,100 M-Pesa locations nationwide or use it directly from their mobile phone for payments like utility bills, recharging Cartela Vodafone and buying goods at selected merchants. The solution is available for any Vodafone mobile customer in Romania: if the recipients do not have an M-Pesa account they can access the transferred funds immediately after registration for the M-Pesa service.

This new service allows Vodafone Romania customers to instantly receive money from abroad for urgent matters.  Other advantages of the new service are ease of use, no associated fees for using funds from the M-Pesa account for paying bills and instant notifications as soon as the transfer is confirmed by the sender.

M-Pesa in Romania: Romania was the first European country where M-Pesa become available in March 2014. M-Pesa functions through an innovative technological platform, with an high security level. The service can be activated for free, by any Vodafone user over  the age of 14, at any M-Pesa affiliated store. Currently M-Pesa service can be activated in a network of over 2100 locations – Vodafone stores, partners’ stores and Rompetrol gas stations.
