  • WorldRemit will donate $5 for every transaction over $100 / £100 made from the United States and United Kingdom for two weeks, to the Pakistan Flood relief efforts of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

  • The Pakistan floods have killed more than 1,000 people since they began last month

September 2, 2022 - WorldRemit, a leading digital cross-border payments platform, is waiving their fees on money transfers to Pakistan in the wake of the flooding that is quickly spiralling into a humanitarian and economic catastrophe for the country. Customers wishing to send money to people in Pakistan in support of relief efforts can do so with no service fee applicable until 15 September 2022.

The flooding has killed more than 1,000 people in the region and displaced more than 330,000 Pakistanis, according to a report from CNN.

UN Secretary General António Guterres on Tuesday said, "The Pakistani people are facing a monsoon on steroids -- the relentless impact of epochal levels of rain and flooding. As we continue to see more and more extreme weather events around the world, it is outrageous that climate action is being put on the back burner as global emissions of greenhouse gases are still rising, putting all of us -- everywhere -- in growing danger.”

Mark Lenhard, Group CEO, Zepz said: “Remittances play a vital role in times of crisis, and provide financial stability and support for those directly affected by disasters. WorldRemit is waiving its fees for anyone who wishes to support the people of Pakistan by sending them money on our platform, as a way to show our solidarity with the global Pakistani community. In addition we will provide our own support with a donation to the IFRC’s Flooding relief efforts.”

WorldRemit will donate USD$5 for every transaction of over $100 or £100 sent to Pakistan with WorldRemit from the US and United Kingdom, during this period.

With the WorldRemit app or website, customers can send financial support to their family and friends in Pakistan free of charge. Money can be sent via bank transfer, cash pickup or mobile money - details on how to send money to Pakistan can be accessed here.
