Customers can transfer money from Malaysia to NIC Asia Bank accounts

Kuala Lumpur, 14 January 2022: WorldRemit, a leading global payments company, has announced a partnership extension with NIC Asia Bank, one of the largest private-sector commercial banks in Nepal, to allow Nepalese living in Malaysia easy access to digital money transfers.

From today, WorldRemit customers in Malaysia can send money directly into NIC Asia Bank accounts of their family and friends in Nepal. This news comes following the recent WorldRemit launch in Malaysia late 2021, which allows for bank transfers, cash pick ups and transfers to multiple mobile wallets in Nepal.

As part of this partnership, beneficiaries of more than 500,000 Nepalese migrants in Malaysia can also take advantage of the extensive branch network of NIC Asia Bank to collect their cash payments in Nepal. 80% of Nepalese receiving funds using WorldRemit can expect to receive funds within an hour, using the platform’s safe and easy-to-use service.

Ruzan Ahamed, Country Director for Nepal at WorldRemit, said: “WorldRemit ensures our customers can conveniently make money transfers to their family and friends securely and with ease. With the ongoing movement restrictions in Malaysia, it is more important than ever that Nepalis in Malaysia have fast, fair and flexible ways to send money home to their loved ones, and we are thrilled to facilitate this through our partnership with NIC Asia Bank.”

NIC Asia Bank is one of the largest private-sector commercial banks in Nepal in terms of capital base, balance-sheet size, number of branches, ATM network, and customer base. With 356 branches, 70 extension counters, 80 branchless banking, and 471 ATMs across Nepal with a network covering all major financial centers of the country.

Speaking about the agreement, Mr Sudhir Nath Pandey, Deputy CEO at NIC Asia Bank, shared: “We are delighted to partner with WorldRemit to provide digital remittance service in Nepal. This best-in-class solution will enable hundreds of thousands of Nepalese working in Malaysia to send remit to their families in Nepal seamlessly and securely.”
