How to renew a Philippine passport in the UK

If you’re one of the approximately 53,000* Filipino nationals living in the UK, there may well come a time when you need to look into Philippine passport renewal.

The good news is that you can do it in the UK, rather than having to make an expensive journey home.  In fact, you can go to the Philippine Embassy in London, a consular outreach mission or an ePassport Renewal Center. You can also extend your passport by mail.

When renewing your passport, you can minimise the stress by being completely prepared. To help you, we’ve put together this simple guide. It will provide you with the crucial information you’ll need to renew your passport in the UK.

What are the Philippine passport renewal requirements in the UK?

These are the core requirements for getting your passport renewed in the UK

  • An accomplished passport application form for an adult or a minor.

  • Your original latest passport

  • A photocopy of the passport data page

  • Printout of a confirmed appointment with the embassy, or consular outreach

  • Self-addressed stamped special delivery envelope with tracking number

Documents needed for a Philippine passport renewal

For minors:

  • Original and photocopy of accompanying parent’s valid passport

For those with dual citizenship:

  • Oath of Allegiance

  • Identification Certificate

  • Order of Approval

How to renew a Philippine passport in the UK

If you need to renew your passport, it’s best to start planning early. In fact, it’s advised that you go to renew your passport as early as 11 months, and no later than six months, before the expiry date.

Once you have all the required documents, there are a number of  ways to renew a Philippine passport in the UK:

  • Make an in person appointment at the Philippine Embassy in London

  • Make an appointment with a Philippine ePassport Renewal Processing Center

  • Visit a consular outreach mission

  • Apply via mail - just for an extension of your existing passport.

Here’s a little more information on each of these routes - simply choose the one that suits you best.

Philippine embassy passport renewal

To get your passport renewed at the Philippine embassy, follow these steps:

  • Make an appointment by booking a slot through the passport appointment system.

  • Click on Passport from the list of services

  • Choose an available date and time for your passport renewal

  • Enter the required details and submit the accomplished online form

  • Finally, print the appointment confirmation sent to your email

It’s worth noting that new appointment schedules are added every second and fourth Monday of the month, between 12 PM and 3 PM.

  • Attend your appointment

Make sure you arrive a little early. When your number is called, go to the Processing Counter and  submit your required documents for evaluation.

  • Pay. Simply go to the cashier and pay the fee of GBP 55 for the passport   renewal processing fee

  • Get your photo and biometric data captured

  • Go to the Passport Encoding Room for your photo and biometric data capture, data encoding, and data verification.

  • Wait for your new Philippine passport to arrive

  • Processing usually takes between 8 and 10 weeks. Your renewed passport will be mailed to you in the envelope you submitted during your application. You can’t pick up your passport at the Embassy.

VFS Philippine ePassport Renewal Processing Centres

The Philippine Embassy in London has recently announced that VFS Philippine ePassport Renewal Processing Centres are now open in Cardiff, Wales; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Dublin, Ireland.

They’re all open from Monday to Friday, by appointment only. You can book an appointment here. And you’ll need to bring these documents with you:

  • Print out of the email confirming the details of your appointment (received after booking your appointment)

  • Original ePassport Printout of your completed online application form. The online application form should be complete, correct and bear the QR code.

  • All supporting documents (including photocopy of current passport and visa)

You can pay the passport renewal fee of GBP 55 at the ePassport Renewal Centre with a credit/debit card, during your appointment. The centres don’t accept cash or American Express cards.

Consular outreach mission

If getting to London to renew your passport is inconvenient, you can do it through a consular outreach in your area. You’ll find that the Embassy announces upcoming consular missions on its website and Facebook page.

Each announcement includes the schedule, venue, and link to the appointment request form. You should be able to book an appointment in most consular missions, though some do also accept walk-in applicants.

You’ll need to bring all the required documents, and pay the renewal fee of GBP 55. Make sure you provide your own self-addressed envelope at the outreach site for them to mail you your new passport.

Extending your passport by mail

If you simply want to extend your Philippine passport you can do so by mail. Here’s how:

  • Prepare your documents for passport extension (original unexpired passport, copy of passport data page and passport extension form which you can find here)

  • Submit your documents, by mail, to the Consular Section (Attention: Passport Extension Section), Philippine Embassy, 6 Suffolk Street, London SW1Y 4HG.

  • Include a postal money order (UK residents) or bank draft (Ireland, Isle of Man, Guernsey, and Jersey residents) for an amount of £23.00, payable to the Philippine Embassy London.

  • Include a self-addressed, stamped, and prepaid registered mailing envelope, with tracking number.

You’ll receive your extended passport from the Embassy within 7 working days from receipt, excluding mailing.

How much does it cost to renew a Philippine passport in the UK?

Renewal of your Philippine passport in the UK will cost GBP 55. You can pay the cashier at the Embassy by card or contactless.

How long does it take to renew a Philippine passport in the UK?

The processing of your renewed passport usually takes between 8 and 10 weeks. Then it will be mailed to you in the envelope you submitted during your application.

If you’re extending  your passport, you’ll receive it from the Embassy within 7 working days from receipt, excluding mailing.
