Simple steps to calling Mexico from the US

Follow these steps to call Mexico from the US:

1. Dial 011 - the country exit code.

2. Tap in 52 - Mexico’s country code

3. Remove the trunk code (if there is one) - this may be 01, 045 or 044

4. Enter the area code - see below

5. Finally, dial your phone number.

Please note that If you’re calling a Mexican cell phone, dial 1 after the area code.

The Mexico country code 52 will allow you to call Mexico from the US. This is dialled after the IDD. Mexico’s international dialling code 52 is followed by an area code.

If, for example, you were calingl a landline in Cancun with the phone number 045 988 413 4703 - you would follow these steps:

1. Dial the exit code - 011

2. Dial the Mexican country code - 52

3. Remove the 045 from the number

4. Dial the area code (Cancun) 998 and the remaining phone number 413 4703

So, by the time you’d finished dialing you’ll have this number typed in - 001 52 988 413 4703.

How to call a cellphone in Mexico from the US

If, for example, you were calling a cellphone in Cancun with the phone number 045 988 413 4703 - you would follow these steps:

1. Dial the exit code - + or 011

2. Dial the Mexican country code - 52

3. Remove the 045 from the number

4. Dial the area code (Cancun) 998 and the remaining phone number 413 4703

So, by the time you’d finished dialling you’ll have this number typed in  + (or 011) 52 988 413 4703.

How to call Mexico for free?

There are a number of ways to call Mexico for free. One option is to use iPhone or Android VoIP apps like WhatsCall, Rebtel, MagicJack, or Vonage, which allow you to make calls over Wi-Fi or mobile data instead of using your regular cell plan minutes.

These apps typically have low monthly fees, or no fees at all. Plus, there are many messaging apps and other apps to call Mexico for free, such as WhatsApp, Viber, Signal, Telegram and Messenger..
