  2. Dial 57 - the Colombia country code

  3. Then dial the 3-digit area code

  4. And finally the phone number, either a landline number or a mobile number

What to do if your number starts with a (+)

Some international numbers have a plus sign before the country code. This (+) simply means that when dialling this number internationally, the country exit code needs to be used. In some cases, you can dial “+” on a cell or simply replace the plus sign with the US exit code - 011.

How to call a cellphone in Colombia from the US

Calling a cellphone in Colombia from the US is easy - you’ll just need to dial the exit code, country code, the mobile area code - these are based on which carrier your contact uses, rather than their location, and then the mobile number.

It should look something like this:

(exit code - 011) (country code - 57) (area code - 000) (mobile number - 1234567)  

How to call a landline in Colombia from the US

Now you know how to call a cellphone in Colombia, what about a landline? Calling a landline number in Colombia from the US is very similar to calling a mobile number. You’ll need the exit code, country code, area code - for landlines, these are based on location and are just one digit, and the local telephone number.

It should look like this:

(exit code - 011) (country code - 57) (area code - 000 OR city code - 0) (landline number - 1234567)
