"My name is Juanita Cardenas. I’m a realtor and insurance agent, also a Bilingual Closer. I love what I do. I’m also a professional singer, I love to sing. I'm originally from Mexico. I was born in Sonora, and now I live in Denver, Colorado. Oh my goodness. I've been here for twenty two years. A long time.

"Even though I learnt English in Mexico, it wasn't the same. When you try to communicate with people, when you get a new job, it’s different. It was very, very hard for me to get into real estate, it was another language. Actually, on my business cards it says 'I speak English, Spanish and real estate. Let's talk.' because to me it was like learning another new language.

"I was able to go back to college and I got a bachelor's degree in business. That helped me a lot to start my new business. I learnt a lot from the university and all the professors helping me. I started my new business and I opened it doing real estate, but at the same time I opened my Allstate Insurance Agency in the same year I graduated from college. I am so proud that I graduated with honours. Even at my age and with English as my second language, I was so proud. I was one of the few graduated with honours that year.

"I was able to meet a lot of good people in the Hispanic community through my business and real estate plus being a bilingual closer and singer. After twenty two years in Denver, I know tons of people and it has been great because, even though I'm able to speak English and communicate with American people, I've been kind of focussed on the Hispanic community more than anybody else, because I know what they have gone through. I love to travel and I've been in a lot of a lot of places, a lot of countries. I love to learn from other cultures.

"I'm so thankful to God that I'm able to go back to Mexico to visit. I go like four or five times a year and I visit my parents. I visit my family. My son is here, and my grandkids, but my daughter's in Arizona, and the rest of my family are all in Mexico.

"Our culture is always that our parents raise us and give us everything. And then when we grow up, it's our turn to give back to them. That's why a lot of people that live in the US always send money to their families because for us there’s no other way. I keep telling my kids, remember, you got to take care of me when I grow older and my daughter said, “Mom, so just make sure to get a house on the beach and then I'll take care of you. No problem.”

"My kids were born in Mexico, but brought to the US and they were adopted by my ex-husband. They've been learning the culture here in the US, but they have a lot from the Mexican culture and of course, our religion has a lot to do with it as well. The Hispanic community is still very tight, family oriented. And I love that. I love teaching that to my kids and to pass it on down. I love my culture. I think, of course, when you learn about other cultures, you see the positive side of your part of your culture and you see the negative side, too, because you see other cultures and learn from them. And of course, I'm able to see the good things of other cultures as well. You can take the good out of all of them, I think, learn from other cultures and take the positive side.

"I want to do the best I can for my mom and dad and provide a house for them to live in and pay for the bills and most of the people that I know, they do the same. All of my friends are supporting their parents or helping their kids if they are in Mexico."
