The internet is an amazing tool that makes our lives easier in several ways - including sending money with WorldRemit.

However, it's important to be careful when using any online service.

WorldRemit has many safeguards in place to protect your personal information.

You can also help yourself by following these simple tips:


Keep your personal information private

Do not share your WorldRemit account or payment information with anyone.

WorldRemit will never:

  • Ask for your password over the phone or by email.
  • Ask for your credit card or bank account details over the phone or by email.
  • Threaten to close your account down if you haven't used it for a while.
  • Send you to any other website to verify your credentials or transfer details.


Check you're connected to the real WorldRemit

  • Always make sure you are using WorldRemit’s secure site. Look for the lock, green bar and/or the green https in your web browser. If you see a red https, do not continue to use the site as it cannot be trusted.
  • Only download WorldRemit's mobile app from the official App Store or Google Play. Apps that are not downloaded from the official App Store or Google Play could put you and your mobile phone at risk.


Get smart with your passwords

  • Try to use different passwords for different online services.
  • Use numbers and characters as well as letters (both upper and lower case) e.g. £W1ndMill42*.
  • Consider using a password manager. These applications generate and automatically enter complex passwords for you. Popular services include LastPass, Keeper and Dashlane. Some web browsers also offer to generate and store complex passwords.


Look out for fake or malicious emails

Criminals and scammers sometimes send out emails pretending to be from companies or services that you use. It's another way of trying to get your personal information.

If you receive an email claiming to be from WorldRemit, look out for the following:

  • Poor spelling or grammar.
  • Lack of a greeting or an impersonal greeting like "Dear Customer" instead of your name.
  • Messages classed as junk or spam by your email software.

Occasionally we may contact you from another email address, but this would typically be in response to an email that you sent us.


Be careful who you send money to

  • You should not send money to someone you have not met in person – even if they claim it is an emergency. You cannot be sure they are who they claim to be.
  • You should not use WorldRemit to pay for goods or services from third parties you do not know and trust.
  • If you think someone you are sending money to is lying about why they need it, challenge them and ask the real reason.
