I*mAkram. I’m more than one thing. I’m a volunteer English teacher, an actor, a student, an uncle, a fitness junkie - the list goes on. More than these things, however, I am a proud Pakistani man living in the UK. And it is both of these homes that help truly identify me.
Being from more than one place has given me the ability to see things from new perspectives. Not only am I more grateful to my first home and the values imparted on me, I’m also grateful to my new home here in the UK, and the opportunities it provides me. This dual identity has also given me a profound understanding of just how similar we all are - no matter where we come from.
Creating authentic connections with my local Pakistani community here helps keep my roots strong. I’m making a world of difference by giving a voice to migrants in the UK, and sending money back home to my family in Pakistan.
