Which mobile money accounts can I send to in Somaliland?

You can send to Telesom ZAAD and Premier Wallet mobile money accounts. The mobile money account must be (1) fully registered and (2) active. When sending to Premier Wallet especially, please verify with your recipient that they have an active Premier wallet account.


When will funds be credited to mobile money accounts in Somaliland?

  • Transfer to Zaad mobile money may take as little as 30 minutes. However due to possible service outages with our partners, it may take a day for funds to be delivered.

  • Transfers to Premier wallets will be within minutes except for cases of outages.

We will notify you and your recipient when funds are credited. We may sometimes require further information from you before we can process the transfer in order to comply with our regulatory requirements. We will email you if this is the case.


What currencies can I send to mobile money accounts in Somaliland?

US Dollar (USD) only.

How much can I send to mobile money accounts in Somaliland?

  • You can send up to $5000 (including fees) per transfer to a Premier Wallet holder.

  • You can send up to $1000 (including fees) per transfer to a Zaad Mobile wallet. You can send multiple transactions per day however your recipient’s Telesom ZAAD mobile money account can only have a maximum balance of USD 5,000 at any given moment. Please ensure that your recipient’s account has sufficient capacity for the transfer to be processed successfully. Your recipient can do this by reducing the balance in their account.


What information do I need from my recipient to send mobile money to Somaliland?

  • Full name. Please enter your recipient’s full name. To avoid any delays, the recipient’s name should match the name registered on their mobile money account.

  • Address. We need your recipient’s city.

  • Mobile money account number:

    • Fully registered and active Premier Wallet or Telesom ZAAD mobile  money accounts only.

    • Length: 9 digits in total (excluding country code). Recipient’s phone number.

  • Contact mobile number. We ask for a contact number in case we need to provide any important updates. This can be different from the mobile money account number.

  • Sending reason. Please indicate whether it is “family or friend support,” “purchase of services,” “property payment,” or “sending funds to self”.

Please ensure that all your recipient’s details are correct. Once you make your transfer, it is difficult for us to amend or stop the transfer, although we will always try our best to do so.

What fees does my recipient pay in Somaliland?

  1. Sending to Premier Wallet - If you are sending money from the US, you will pay a fee of 1% of the total amount you are sending. If you are sending from Canada, UK, and Europe, you will not pay any fees. As such, whether you send $100, you will pay $0 in fees.

  2. Sending to Zaad - You will pay a fee of $3 no matter which country you send money from.

WorldRemit does not charge your recipient any additional fees for the mobile money transfer. However, some local operators may charge them a fee when they withdraw funds as cash. This depends on the mobile operator’s policy and is not determined by WorldRemit.

How can my recipient open a premier wallet?

Your recipient can open a premier wallet by doing the following:

  1. Must have a Somalia/Somaliland telephone number or premier bank account

  2. Download Premier Wallet App from Appstore or Google Play Store.

  3. Open the Premier Wallet App, and follow easy registration steps

  4. You are ready to go.
