Who we’re searching for...?

 

Reporting to the Regional Head of Compliance - APAC and the Australian Country Director & Board of Directors.

The role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Regulatory Compliance for the organization’s Australia business, for example, ensuring that the Australia business is complying with all applicable regulatory requirements, embedding and maintaining and effective compliance culture and governance across the Australia business, management of compliance training, recordkeeping, monitoring, and analytical functions involved with regulatory compliance for including the Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act 2006.  

The Australian Compliance Officer will simultaneously maintain a constructive, ongoing relationship and communication with the applicable regulators, including but not limited to the AML Regulatory body AUSTRAC and any applicable Industry Working Groups.

The Australian Country Compliance Officer will also promote and maintain awareness of compliance obligations/framework, risk issues and help drive a culture of compliance.

 

As a Country Compliance Officer (AUS), you’ll:

  • Handle the management, maintenance, oversight, reporting, monitoring and ongoing testing of the Australia AML/CTF/Compliance programs;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Australia laws, regulations and Company policies and procedure;
  • Advise and support the organisation on day-to-day Compliance related issues and escalations, questions and requirements in accordance with the applicable Australian Regulatory AML/Sanctions, Privacy, Consumer Protection requirements as well as all applicable WorldRemit Group policies;
  • This role will also be the AML officer and point of contact with AUSTRAC and other applicable regulatory bodies and attend to regular enquiries for the regulators;
  • Handle the management of regulatory compliance across Australia by:
    • Conducting the required Risk Assessments and training
    • Maintain, implement and manage internal & external exam and audit and MSB license registrations programs;
    • Resolve outstanding issues identified in Exams and Audits;
    • Assure appropriate officer coverage and business continuity;
    • Report to Compliance Management on the status of regulatory compliance.
    • Handle regulatory reporting to local authorities.
  • Be involved as appropriate in local partnership, collaboration, networking with industry working groups or opportunities from a compliance perspective;
  • Work closely with the Regional Head of Compliance and Legal counsel to analyse changes to regulatory requirements and proactively track and manage regulatory developments.
  • Assist, attend and provide input into the Regional Compliance Committees. 
  • Chair the Australia Compliance and AML Committee.
  • Attend to Law Enforcement Requests or Governmental Request for Information.
  • Collate the Compliance Dashboard for the Board.
  • Carry out any other tasks, local, regional or global projects as may be requested from time to time. 

 

Have you got what it takes?

 

  • Experience in similar role
  • Graduate degree or compensating experience in an Australian compliance management role AND previous Australian AML Officer with at least 3 years+ relevant work experience
  • Very good understanding of the Australia Regulatory Regime/Requirements pertaining to:
    • Providing International Money Transfer;
    • The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act), The Privacy Act and all other associated regulatory regimes applicable to our business.
    • Best industry practice Internal Controls & Risk Assessment for example understanding of effective Risk Assessment methodology and applicable 3 Lines of Defence controls
  • Experience in handling, assisting with Regulatory inspections and exams (both desk reviews & on site);
  • Proven understanding of the regulatory environment & landscape in Australia;
  • Strong analytical, investigative and communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Good negotiation skills to reach to good agreement with the business and overseas team members. Ideally the ability to work with peers and internal customers locally, regionally and globally.
  • Good people management skills

  • Must be able to work in a face paced and ever-changing evolving office environment and very proficient in MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent English communication skills both oral and written. Must be able to handle non face-to-face communication on a regular basis via several methods, including e-mail, telephone, internal office Instant Messaging, internal & external meetings/teleconferences etc.
