WorldRemit launches transfers to mobile money accounts held with Indosat Dompetku

London - 22 July 2014: Online money transfer service WorldRemit is now offering customers the ability to send funds to friends and family in Indonesia who use Indosat’s Dompetku Mobile Money service.

Registered Indosat Dompetku account holders will receive the money on their phone within minutes of it being sent through WorldRemit. The balance can then be used to make mobile payments or withdrawn as cash at more than 50,000 locations, including ATMs.

WorldRemit’s founder and CEO, Ismail Ahmed welcomed the service, saying: “WorldRemit is delivering money transfers for a connected world and increasingly that means Mobile Money.  Indonesia has embraced this technology and we are happy that our customers can now take advantage of the speed and convenience that Indosat’s Dompetku service offers.

“Money sent from overseas is an important part of life for many people in Indonesia and WorldRemit provides the widest range of ways to receive it – from bank transfer and cash pickup to mobile airtime top-up and now Mobile Money.”

Indosat Dompetku account holders who have received money through WorldRemit can also make payments to people who use Telkomsel TCash and XL Tunai Mobile Money, thanks to a ground-breaking interoperability deal struck by the three operators in 2013. The agreement led industry body the GSMA to call Indonesia “a mobile money market to watch closely.”

Indonesians received an estimated $7.6bn of remittances in 2013, an increase of 5% over the previous year, according to the World Bank.
