WorldRemit brings instant money transfer service to the Seychelles

International money transfers sent via WorldRemit arrive in the Seychelles for the first time

Victoria and London, 23 November 2017: Leading digital money transfer service WorldRemit has expanded its remittance service to include the Seychelles, with the launch of money transfers to 10 cash pickup locations across the archipelago.

This new service will allow the Seychelles diaspora living and working in over 50 countries to send remittances as easily as sending an instant message, using the WorldRemit app or website to any of the new cash pickup locations across the Seychelles.

WorldRemit’s mobile-first, digital model allows hard working migrants from the Seychelles to send money in a few taps directly from their phones - without the need to visit or stand in line at a bricks and mortar agent.

According to the World Bank, nearly 11% of the Seychelles’ population live and work abroad, with top migration destinations including France, Australia and the United States. It estimates that in 2015 the Seychelles received over $15 million dollars in overseas remittances.

WorldRemit’s Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East, Andrew Stewart comments: “We are pleased to bring our fast, lower-cost service to the Seychelles. Now diaspora from the Seychelles can transfer funds conveniently from their phone or online. Within minutes cash can be picked up from locations in the Seychelles.”

In June, WorldRemit announced a global integration with Google’s Android Pay, followed by a partnership with Huawei’s mobile money platform across Africa. Recently, WorldRemit also announced a global partnership with Arsenal FC, becoming the club’s first official Online Money Transfer Partner. WorldRemit customers now complete over 750,000 transfers every month from 50 send countries to over 148 receiving destinations.
