Purpose of the Role:

The Head of Global PR reports into our VP Corporate Communications and is responsible for managing WorldRemit’s profile in the media, creating visibility for the company’s brand and mission globally. The company is growing rapidly in multiple markets – Africa, APAC and LATAM, as well as in major send markets – the US and UK. This role which will work mainly in corporate communications, will lead our PR strategy and execution.

Candidate Profile:

You will have excellent knowledge of the US/UK fintech/payments scene, top-level media contacts in the tech, fintech and banking press and be accustomed to working globally.

Ideally you will have a mixture of agency and in-house experience, and be a team-player with a high degree of personal credibility and integrity. You will be comfortable with being able to lead and be hands-on for delivery.

To be Successful, You will:

  • Be used to leading complex multi-country press launches and have a wide range of experience in managing agencies and freelancers for successful delivery of campaigns.
  • Have extensive prior experience of running integrated campaigns, with social media and marketing components.
  • Have a demonstrable track record of success, having secured coverage in top tier targets, such as the FT, Telegraph, BBC and Sky or equivalents.
  • Be an experienced manager, able to manage work-loads, allocate tasks and develop a talented team of PR staff.
  • Be able to demonstrate strategic thinking, having designed and executed corporate PR strategies.
  • Have strong editorial judgement, and experience of crisis management.
  • Be alert to external trends and opportunities – to spot and respond on issues relevant to WorldRemit’s business and mission.

Internal Stakeholders

You will work closely with WorldRemit’s Commercial team, leading the company’s approach to PR of major partnerships. You will also work with social media, marketing and content teams, developing 360 degree media plans across multiple channels.

The Team

In this role, you will manage the PR Manager, PR executive, and Research and Communications Executive.  You will tasked with coaching and mentoring this high-performing team and will be comfortable working collegially, supporting colleagues across the Communications team, and within the wider division, in accordance to work flow and team priorities.  

Key skills and attributes: 

  • You will have substantial experience of working as a professional communicator in the industry, preferably with both agency and in-house experience   
  • Excellent knowledge of business, fintech, corporate media landscape – particularly from a UK/US perspective. Other global expertise would be an asset.  
  • First-class writing, editing and pitching skills – a stickler for accuracy.
  • Excellent nose for a story and identifying key outlets.
  • A track-record of coverage secured by self in top media targets.
  • Experience of crisis and reputation management.
  • Strong knowledge of wider trends which affect WorldRemit’s work – such as migration, mobile telecommunications, digital identities and data issues.  
  • Ability to prioritise multiple deadlines, activities and enable others to do so.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to lead PR delivery across multiple regional and global markets, and support others to do so.  
  • Ability to lead PR strategy and delegate effectively
  • Excellent technical knowledge of tools and databases, needed for media delivery and ability to coach others in them.
  • Successful experience of managing external media agencies and freelances.
  • Strong persuasive skills, able to persuade others to co-operate to achieve better outcomes for the organisation
  • Proactively problem-solving and continually seeking better ways of working
  • Supportive management, coaching staff and encouraging ambitious outcomes.
  • Budget management experience
