Role Overview:

Reporting into the Chief Marketing Officer, Alex O’Shaughnessy, the PR & Communications Director is a key senior hire for the business. Insight focused, this individual will be responsible for making strategically focused, commercial decisions about how the company is represented externally with the aim of supporting the growth of the business and striking the right balance between corporate and consumer communications. 

This person will bring considerable savvy in dealing with the media, have a strong existing network of journalistic contacts and adept at managing agency relationships across the globe. They will have experience of both developed and emerging economies and will understand the nuances of the influence of both sender and receivers within the remittance industry.

They will develop and execute PR and Communications strategies and will inherit a small team. The team has broad responsibilities across speaking and press engagements, presentation preparation, media training, investor presentations and public policy.

They will energetically develop a plethora of new relationships in target, recipient markets. Working closely with the Head of Brand, Planning & Strategy & Head of Marketing Campaigns, they will understand the need for integrated planning and for campaigns to have broad appeal.

On the consumer campaigns, online and social media has played an important and growing role to date and it will continue to do so. The incoming hire will be expected to harness this and further enhance its position within the overall communications mix. 

Writing skills are critical and the incoming hire will be expected to produce thought leadership which resonates with both sender and recipient communities. They will correspondingly shape their communication strategy by using our brand values to create an emotional connection with the brand.

Role Profile:

This hire will be an experienced, strategic communications executive with significant commercial experience. They will have a track record of delivering the ‘right message at the right time’ to highly diverse and ever-expanding audiences. 

They will have extensive experience of both traditional and online PR, specifically creating large volumes of quality content from consumer engagement to press releases, website and editorial to generate cost effective campaigns. 

With outstanding internal and external presentational skills, they will navigate cultural nuances and ambiguity to deliver outstanding PR across a variety of media. 

They will have top-level media contacts in the tech, fintech and banking press and be accustomed to working globally. Ideally, they will have a mixture of agency and in-house experience and be a team-player with a high degree of personal credibility and integrity. You will be comfortable with being able to lead and be hands-on for delivery.

This person will have experience of managing high quality teams and inspire them and the broader company. Coming from a background in either technology, financial services or a high-growth digital environment, they will have both consumer and corporate experience and ideally have had exposure to public affairs and investor relations within a pre-IPO organisation.

Skills & Experience: 

  • Executive Presence & Leadership - This hire will exude executive presence and gravitas based on a track record of success in previous senior public relations and communications roles. They will have a high standing in the broader industry and be perceived as someone who has an excellent handling of the broader media industry. 
  • Strategic communications mentality – This person will have strong experience in relevant PR and communications disciplines, including content creation and social media. They will have created integrated communications strategies which dovetail with and magnify the efforts of the company's broader marketing efforts. They will bring a strong streak of creativity to their day-to-day role, producing genuinely distinctive work and creating a deep connection between the public and the brand. They will have impeccable judgement of which external agencies to use. They will also be responsible for managing the department budget and ensuring all campaigns meet commercial targets
  • Consumer and Corporate experience – Strong at understanding the differing dynamics of communicating directly to the broader technology, investment communities and media on one hand and to consumers on the other. They will demonstrate robustness and excellent judgement in crisis management situations. Public affairs and investor experience would be advantageous. 

  • Track record of execution – Highly adept at translating strategic plans into simple, practical action plans. Will have a track record of tenaciously delivering on them and overdelivering on ambitious targets. Will roll up their sleeves and dive into the details and day-to-day execution as necessary, whilst not losing sight of the strategic imperatives.
  • People and stakeholder management – The new hire will have a strong track record of building, inspiring and galvanising small teams.  Used to working at the highest levels, they will be adept at leveraging and working hand-in-glove with the executive team, Marketing and Country Heads.
